EV charging company, GRIDSERVE, that is rolling out Electric Forecourts® and Electric Charging Super Hubs powered by renewable energy across the UK, has moved a step closer to its mission of net zero transport by launching its first dedicated mobile app for EV motorists.
Produced in partnership with Microsoft Azure specialist, Dootrix, the GRIDSERVE app boasts a user-centric design and personalises the user experience by allowing drivers to find their EV charging points, manage payment information, view payment history and view real-time charging information, including estimated time left to charge.
The new app has been designed and produced by GRIDSERVE, with the help of tech specialist Dootrix, to meet the needs of motorists across more than 190 locations on the GRIDSERVE Electric Highway, including the award-winning Electric Forecourts®, Electric Super Hubs at motorway service areas and Electric Retail Hubs at locations such as Dobbies. The move is expected to further help give drivers the confidence to go electric and speed up EV adoption in the UK.
GRIDSERVE’s announcement brings its Sun-to-Wheel revolution one step closer enabling users to ensure their vehicles are charged optimally with sustainable energy.
Rob Borley, CEO at Dootrix, that has been working with GRIDSERVE on selected projects since 2019 helping to build some of its technology solutions, said: “This state-of-the-art technology creates the roadmap for continued advancements that can be made quickly to meet future needs and empower EV drivers even more.”
A novel feature of the new mobile app is the visualisation of the variation in the speed at which the EV is charging during a session, known as the charging curve, giving drivers additional insight into their charging experience.
Borley added: “This is made possible by a very strong technical connection to the chargers themselves; real-time data from the chargers enables the app to build charging curves of the number of kilowatts that are being delivered to the vehicle throughout the charging session.”
Rebecca Trebble, Chief Customer Experience Officer, said: “We are thrilled to be launching the GRIDSERVE app. 200,000 charging sessions are recorded on the GRIDSERVE Electric Highway every month and the new app will make those charging sessions even easier. We have listened to our users and made it easier to receive receipts as we look to constantly improve our service. With 20% off charging across our locations this summer, it’s the perfect time to utilise the network and the app for a summer adventure.”
The iOS and Android app versions, which help users find the best charging location which then can be navigated to through Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze, provide a foundation to allow for the future development of more market-leading features, to enable GRIDSERVE, which currently has more than 1,400 charging bays, to move closer to its mission of net zero transport.
